Difficult Angles by manic-goose Difficult Angles by manic-goose
This is a basic face... no real stylizing here... it can be interpreted into anime or realism pretty easily I think... The point is to show some angles that I have always found difficult to draw, showing what they look like in a basic form for people to try to copy. I haven't done a step by step for all of these, this is just a reference page... but if you have questions for any of these angles, I can try to break it down for you. I hope this helps.

I hate to say, but I do believe you got the middle extreme left face wrong.

The jaw should be more pronounced, and here it's still faced down. The forehead is also off a bit.

Some of these are rather correct and very nicely done, but others I feel as though you didn't take the time to find references for said angle, and thus they come out warped or off.

Nah, that depends on the type of jaw we are talking about, I was going for a general hybrid real-cartoon that can be modified in either direction. Looking at it, it looks pretty consistent with how I drew the face in every other panel. And I did have references for every angle, I took pictures of the same face from each angle. I appreciate the feedback, but this time, I disagree.

That's fine, you don't have to agree with me. I guess it depends on the style you want. I was looking for realism, something much harder and (to me) better looking, more pleasing to the eye, and overall looks better when trying to get a job in the career of art.

It does fit...partially with the consistency of the style. Some of the ones on this page are far more correct than others. It's a blend of realism and "anime" and some of them dive into the one category more than the other. I guess I noticed the one I did because that was both the angle I love to use the most, and the one that had the most drastic cartoon appeal. It sounds as though you were going for this, but the problem with that is that it can't really be used for reference if you keep changing the amount of one or the other from each head. People looking for advice in how do to things need consistency, something which is hard to achieve and why making tutorials can be either really hard, or even harder.

Still, I would probably never make a tutorial myself. I don't find myself good enough to make one. It's nice to know that people CAN find tutorials out there though. I guess you have to be daring to make one?

I'm perfectly fine with the fact that you disagree, and I'm not trying to change your mind. This is just my opinion.

Mine aren't the best for full on realism, that is not my strongest area. If you really want a good realistic reference, take a picture of yourself or someone you know int he angle you want. that is still the best... as long as you know how to extract the lines from what you see of the contours. Good luck
